Domaine du Pélican Arbois Savagnin Ouillé

The Marquis d’Angerville is not only one of the most talented winemakers in Burgundy, but also highly esteemed for his farming practices. Domaine du Pélican is a project in the almost isolated eastern region of Jura. Inspired by Jura wines — particularly a glass of Tissot Arbois Chardonnay ‘Les Bruyères’ 2005, which he initially mistook for a true white Burgundy — he set out to explore the Jura for himself. The wines produced at Pélican are undeniably Jura, yet follow a Burgundian approach, avoiding the traditional oxidative style. Farming is entirely chemical-free, and cellar work is executed with meticulous attention to detail.

The grapes for this wine are sourced primarily from the parcels named “Au Barby” and “Grand Curoulet,” grown in Jurassic marl soils. Produced without the signature oxidative notes of traditional Jura wines — hence the term Ouille — this Savagnin is styled more like a Burgundy Chardonnay, while still remaining a Jura classic.
