Cortili is the culmination of many years of work by Tenuta Alzatura and its owner, Andrea Cecchi. Montefalco, a DOC in Umbria best known for its red wines made from Sangiovese and Sagrantino, also produces a small amount of white wine, largely from Grechetto. Alzatura, however, has focused its attention on a grape that had almost disappeared: Trebbiano Spoletino. Despite sharing its name, it is unrelated to other Trebbiano varieties and has remarkable potential for quality.
