4 Monos (4 Monkeys) is a team of four friends and wine lovers native to this region. As is typical of the New Spain, this “gang of four” came together in an unconventional way: they met while hiking in the Gredos mountains, one of the most remarkable wine terroirs to emerge in recent years. Located 80 km west of Madrid, the Sierra de Gredos is a mountain range that stretches across three appellations – Méntrida, Vinos de Madrid, and Castilla y León – and rises between 600 and 1,200 metres above sea level. Old bush vines planted on sand, granite, and schist grow alongside olive, evergreen, almond, and chestnut trees, as well as scrub, chamomile, and wildflowers. The landscape feels like a sacred meeting point between the Mediterranean and the Alpine, often described as magical for its beauty and extraordinary diversity.
